"Washing Clothes." 

"Washing clothes" is a 2011 film by Odveig Klyve and Kari Klyve Gulbrandsen and features a poem by Rai Saxena. It has been shown at Kritya International Poetry Festival in Naqpur, India, and at Kapittel, Stavanger International Festival for Literature and Freedom of Speech. It was also screened at the International Literary Film Festival in NYC, November 2011. 



 
"Washing Clothes." 

They rub off every speck of dirt 
From the collars of shirts, pockets and folds 
Removing meaninglessness from every word 

They rinse the clothes 
One by one in the bucketful of water 
Dipping every meaning in the word 
They beat and rub and wash 
In the flowing waters of meaning 
Shake the clothes, smoothes the folds, 
And put them on the line 
Decorating the word with the shell of meaning 
Every dried cloth on the line is her poem 
Washing clothes is not advertisements for soaps

कपड़े धोती औरतें 

 

वे रगड़ती हैं जर्रा जर्रा मैल

कमीज के कालर, जेब और तुरपनों पर से

शब्द शब्द से अनर्थ को हटाती हुई

 

वे खंगालती हैं कपड़े

बाल्टी भर पानी में एक के बाद एक

अर्थ अर्थ को शब्द में डुबोती हुई

 

वे कूटती हैं, समलती हैं

धोती हैं धार धार

फटकती हैं सँवारती हैं

सुखा देती हैं अलगनी पर

शब्दों को अर्थ की सीपी में सजाती हुई

 

अलगनी पर सूखता हर कपड़ा

उसकी रची कविता होती है

 

कपड़े धोती औरतें

साबुन का इश्तिहार नहीं होतीं

Rati Saxena was born in Rajasthan, India in 1954, now living in Kerala. She has a PHD in study of Veda, especially the Atharvaveda. She has published three collections of her own poetry in Hindi, Malayalam (translated), and English.

Odveig Klyve (born 1954) is a Norwegian film director, writer, and translator. She has written and directed short films, presented at international film festivals in Europe, USA and India. Her poetry is translated into several languages. She lives in Stavanger at the west coast of Norway.

Kari Klyve Gulbrandsen, director, photographer, editor.

Kari Klyve Gulbrandsen (born 1980) is a Norwegian film director, photographer, and editor. She has directed, photographed, and edited several short films. She has a Master on Documentary Film. She lives in Bergen at the west coast of Norway.
